Trump Loses Patience With Iran’s Mixed Messages on Peace Deal

by admin477351

President Donald Trump made clear Thursday that he has run out of patience with what he described as Iran’s contradictory diplomatic behaviour, warning that the country must move toward a genuine agreement before it is too late. Posting on Truth Social, Trump claimed Iranian negotiators were “begging” for a deal while their government publicly insisted it was only reviewing the American ceasefire proposal. He described Iran’s diplomatic team as “very different and strange” and warned that continuing the double game would have irreversible consequences.

The US ceasefire proposal currently on the table consists of 15 points addressing the key drivers of the conflict. It includes sanctions relief for Iran, the complete rollback of Tehran’s nuclear programme, caps on its missile capabilities, and a commitment to maintaining open passage through the Strait of Hormuz — a waterway that carries roughly a fifth of the world’s oil. Iran has publicly rejected the plan, though private discussions are said to be ongoing.

Tehran responded through state-run television with conditions of its own. Iran is demanding protection from military targeting of its officials, legal guarantees against future wars, financial reparations for damage sustained, and sovereignty recognition over the Strait of Hormuz. American officials have not indicated any willingness to accept these terms as currently framed.

The war continues to claim lives at a devastating pace. Over 1,500 people have died in Iran, and Lebanon’s death toll stands at nearly 1,100. Dozens more have been killed in Israel, 13 American service members have lost their lives, and millions of civilians across the region have been forced to flee the fighting.

Trump’s increasingly strident warnings reflect Washington’s view that the diplomatic clock is ticking. The language of irreversibility and severity suggests that the United States may soon take more drastic action if Iran does not respond constructively. The next steps in what has become one of the most consequential diplomatic crises in recent memory will be closely watched.
