Enhanced Accessibility at Mecca’s Grand Mosque for Elderly and People of Determination During Ramadan

by admin477351

In a significant move to foster inclusivity, the General Authority for the Care of the Affairs of the Grand Mosque and the Prophet’s Mosque has implemented a series of enhancements to support elderly worshippers and people of determination during the holy month of Ramadan.

To ensure a comfortable and seamless experience, dedicated prayer areas have been designated throughout the Grand Mosque. Men with disabilities can find specially allocated spaces on the first floor near Gate 91, opposite Shubaika Bridge at Gate 68, in the southern courtyard near Ajyad Bridge, the western courtyard at Shubaika, and two locations in the Saudi Third Expansion near Gate 123.

For women, designated prayer spaces include Gate 88 on the ground floor, Gate 65 on the first floor in Shubaika, Prayer Area 15 with a direct view of the Kaaba, as well as the southern, western, and eastern courtyards, ensuring ease of access and spiritual connection.

To improve mobility, wheelchair ramps have been installed, and designated lanes are marked with clear signage, making navigation more convenient for worshippers. Additionally, directional signs have been placed throughout the mosque to guide visitors efficiently. Those requiring mobility assistance can also benefit from the availability of both manual and electric carts.

With these thoughtful modifications, the Grand Mosque reaffirms its commitment to providing an accessible and inclusive environment, ensuring that all worshippers, regardless of their physical abilities, can fully participate in the sacred rituals of Ramadan.
