Trump Abruptly Ends Meeting With Zelensky Amid Heated Exchange

by admin477351

In a tense Oval Office encounter on Friday, U.S. President Donald Trump abruptly ended a meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr c accusing him of lacking gratitude for American support in Ukraine’s ongoing war with Russia. The confrontation cast doubt on the possibility of a U.S.-brokered peace deal and left an anticipated resource agreement unsigned.

A Meeting Cut Short
Zelensky had traveled to Washington for what was meant to be a significant step in Ukraine’s post-war recovery—signing a bilateral agreement on mineral resource development. However, the meeting quickly devolved into a fiery exchange, with Trump and Vice President JD Vance pressing Zelensky on what they saw as his insufficient appreciation for U.S. military and financial aid.

“You’re either going to make a deal, or we’re out,” Trump reportedly told Zelensky. “And if we’re out, you’ll have to fight it out, and I don’t think it’s going to be pretty.”

Zelensky, visibly frustrated, pushed back, highlighting the devastation caused by Russia’s invasion and rejecting the idea of concessions to Moscow. The disagreement escalated, leading to Zelensky’s premature departure from the White House without holding a planned joint press conference.

Fallout and Trump’s Response
Following the meeting, Trump took to his Truth Social platform to criticize Zelensky, accusing him of disrespecting the U.S. and being unwilling to pursue peace.

“He disrespected the United States of America in its cherished Oval Office,” Trump wrote. “He can come back when he is ready for peace.”

The collapse of the meeting marks a significant shift in the relationship between Washington and Kyiv. While Trump has insisted that Ukraine must make “compromises” in any peace deal, Zelensky stood firm, arguing that negotiating with Russian President Vladimir Putin, whom he called a “killer,” is not an option.

The breakdown raises fresh concerns over continued U.S. support for Ukraine, as well as the prospects for a negotiated settlement to the war. With the resource deal left in limbo and diplomatic ties further strained, the path forward remains uncertain.
