Two UAE-operated oil tankers, Mombasa and Al Bahyah, were struck by Iranian cruise missiles in the Strait of Hormuz, resulting in the death of one crew member and injuries to eight others, according to the UAE Ministry of Defence. The Indian crew member who lost his life was aboard the Mombasa, while four of the injured are reported to be in serious condition.

The attack has caused significant damage to both vessels, prompting a strong condemnation from the UAE, which described the incident as a grave violation of international law and a threat to regional security and maritime navigation. The strategic Strait of Hormuz is a crucial passage for global oil shipments, and this event has further escalated tensions in the region.

In response to the incident, Oman’s Maritime Security Centre reported that they have successfully rescued 18 crew members from the Al Bahyah, while three individuals remain unaccounted for. The Indian government, noting that 30 of the 46 crew members on the vessels were Indian nationals, condemned the attack and expressed condolences to the victim’s family, pledging to work with local authorities to aid those affected.

This assault has sent ripples through the global oil market, with prices reaching a four-week high due to concerns over the security of shipping routes through the Strait of Hormuz. As investigations continue, the situation highlights the vulnerabilities facing the vital maritime artery and the potential for increased instability in the region.
