The United Arab Emirates has issued a strong condemnation of recent threats made by the Houthi group against Saudi Arabia, which included the possibility of a maritime blockade. In response, the UAE’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has called for global action to enforce United Nations Security Council resolutions that pertain to Yemen and the security of the Red Sea.
Highlighting the importance of these resolutions, the UAE ministry emphasized Resolution 2216, which concerns Yemen, and Resolution 2722, which focuses on safeguarding navigation rights and ensuring freedom of movement in the Red Sea. These international mandates are crucial for maintaining stability and security in the region.
The UAE underscored that under international law and the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea, freedom of navigation through international waters is a guaranteed right. This assertion comes amid the heightened tensions following the Houthi group’s provocative statements.
Expressing unwavering support, the UAE reaffirmed its full solidarity with Saudi Arabia. The ministry voiced strong backing for any measures that aim to protect the kingdom’s security and stability, signaling a commitment to standing by its ally in the face of regional threats.
